To John Murray Esqr — Albemarle Street

London Jany. 12 . 1816 —

My dear Sir —

My Lectures on Ancient & Modern Poetry will occupy two respect
=able Quarto Volumes or three Octavos such as Blair's
Lectures on the Belles Lettres — The work will engage me
probably about five years — if not executed in seven years
it will be in your option to relinquish the engagement —
I consider Three thousand guineas a very liberal price
if paid in bills at three & six months from the
date of delivering the entire Manuscript entirely ready.
for printing — Should the whole Copy Money not be
paid within 8 months from the date of delivery the ms —
I shall consider the Copy right as reverting to myself — I consider
the date of the time allowed to finish the work as commencing
when our present specimens of English Poetry are publis hed

I remain yours respectfully T. Campbell
